Reasons, reasons, there are always reasons. Fear is intensified by the trauma and it became the limiting factor for this being. It is the reason for the kind of existence being lived by. Whew, just got home from church and I had another idiotic encounter. After the mass, I went straight to Mercury Drug Store to buy some food (canned goods and some junk foods) when I met this lady. She approached me and called me by some name (I really did not hear clearly). Honestly, I really could not remember her. I even looked if there was someone behind me lol. Anyway, she approached me and asked where my "mama" was. I wasn't sure what she meant by "mama" as I call my grandmother "mama" and my mom "mom". I immediately answered that she was home. My mom is currently at the province, and my grandmother is at home (intubated). I noticed the expression on her face as if the confidence of knowing me slowly subsided. She then asked if we didn't celebrate all souls' day at the province and I confidently answered a "no" and unintentionally had an expression of being surprised why she didn't know (If she was a relative, she'd know that my grandmother was at home and needed nursing and that there's no way of visiting the dead when there's someone at home catching her breath to live). I think that expression really had her. She left and I know from the look on her face that she had second thoughts if I was really the person she thought I was, which I am. These was all because of my automatic response of clumsiness when a somewhat stranger tries to converse with me. I always give out answers without thinking twice whether or not I understood clearly their question. I even pair it with expressions I don't really intend on showing but they do, which then give false impression on what I really mean (Now I'm confused with my words)
. Well, just wanted to share this experience. I think I got her to feel embarrassed more than I did.

Yesterday, when I scanned through the television set, I was able to watch the Devil's Advocate (starring Keanu Reeves and Al Pachino). There was a line by the Devil (Al Pachino) saying that the 20th century was his (just before reaching the year 2000). It got me thinking. People before the millennium were too worried about the end of the world. Movies came out about comets hitting the Earth, or "the beast" appearing. Some religious leaders even talked their followers to go to their sacred place because only they can be saved (you might know who I'm talking about and I don't want to name names). Everyone was busy for the said event--the End of the World. Well, watching the movie for the second time got me into thinking: What if they had the right idea of the world belonging to Satan, but only got the date wrong? What if it were that only until the 20th century was the world able to resist him? People after the "expected End-of-the-World" I think got away with the pressure, and some I think felt quite free. Freedom to think, feel, and act. The feeling that the end may not come. Just look around, even the Catholic church tolerate scandals and have no power against it. Actions taken against immorality are taken as being judgemental. Conservative cultures are dying fast, and doing wrong is much preferred than doing right. Self-sacrifice is a thing of the past and all I care about is my future. Vanity is inveitable.

What if the 20th century wasn't his but was the last stand for humanity and faith to succeed? What if the 21st century onward is deemed under his ownership? Just a question though, what if?

Just got home from another badminton night. It wasn't the game I expected though. Quite a lousy game tonight. Hopefully next time won't be the same. I have this problem though. My work schedule changed and I have to wake up as early as 5:00 in the morning for 4 days per week. If a game night is hyper, the next day will be very tiring. Whew. Well, it's just a matter of getting used to.

I just wonder... I always had this dream (I don't even know if it's a nightmare or what). It's just that I'm not disturbed by the nature of this dream. I'm just disturbed by its frequent occurrence.

In the dream, I see my high school classmates. We were by the beach. It's a weird beach because there are high walls (I think it's similar to an episode of Mr. Bean, where he tried to dress up in front of a blind man). There were subdivisions behind the wall. Suddenly, the sea becomes calm. Then I see a very huge wave. We just went up the wall and up to the houses to see the waves bang the wall. Some people were drowned. But we just stood there spectating. The waves could not harm us at all.

I think I like this dream that is why it keeps repeating. I know this is something psychological and I need to be able to explain its logic.

At the end of ten years, they had paid everything. Everything with the rates of usury, and the accumulations of the compound interest.

Just a while ago, I went to the university wearing a formal wear. It was the second day of PAASCU visitation. Everything was set. I started the day right. Got up, took a bath, ate my breakfast, and went off. Upon arriving at school, I went straight to the lab, as I saw some of my students waiting. I left my things and hurried to the faculty room where I heard something on the way. The first class wasn't satisfactory as my supposed lecture did not work out. The computer just didn't cooperate. Well, we went on anyway. I didn't have my 11:00 class because we were due for an interview. I already felt uneasy, but never realized what it was. Then came the interview. I noticed the very cool feeling... it was cold because the room was airconditioned. But it was cooler. Just in the middle of the interview, I found out what that uneasy feeling was and it was related to that cool feeling. I saw my pants torn out right at the center! I was in front of a nun! The hell should I know what to do? I kept silent even though I should have talked a lot during the interview. I just kept silent. What's interesting is I forgot about it after the interview. We went on to take our lunch, did my job on my 1:00 class, then went on with the 2:30 class. In the middle of our discussion, I remembered that funny feeling. Damn the pants. I know my students couldn't have missed it! There was still roughly 30 minutes left and I discontinued our circular discussion. I should feel embarrassed! Geeez!

Father Ocampo sure is consistent with his R.I.P messages. I was hoping I could get more useful info from his messages. I mean, as Atenean, i also wish to receive updates that are really useful for both me and the ADDU community. I just wish that more useful updates would come specially those that would help the industry where I'm in. Just an opinion. No offense meant.

I really don't understand the way of the world. Many people proclaim their faith in God but do not practice the teachings. Forwarding messages/videos of "encouragement"(sometimes these aren't even encouragement but threats). Email messages that contain something like having the courage to stand up and asks to forward these messages, I really think that's stupid. If you really are strong in faith, why not proclaim it head on. Face your adversaries! Why go behind the technology where you hide through chain messages? You are proclaiming not your faith but of that who created the message. After forwarding them, would you talk to your colleagues about it? I doubt it. You don't even feel encouraged by it. You just feel guilty not forwarding these messages, and guilt is not a manifestation of faith.

I also have observed that these "compassionate" people are those who see problems of humanity every day and talk about it but never made a single action to resolve at least one of them. You are pitiful, but I don't pity you. I hope people stop forwarding these chain letters and just do something about the problem. Actions speak louder than words. Walk your talk. I did, why can't you?

Winston Chhurchill once said: "The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you can see." What does this mean? Can I predict the future if I study the past? Well, I looked back at our history (not only the Philippine History, but the World History). How does knowing how dinosaurs and the Homo erectus lived enable me to know the future? Will their extinction be the same as ours? Just a thought.

What if looking farther backward makes me dwell in the past too much? Will it also cause me to worry too much for the future? Is it what people are doing today that we take the present for granted? Again, just a thought...

For years man sought for the profound meaning of life. With this, we seek for the kind of character that would help in achieving it. Questions have been raised, and theperiod of inquisition never ceased. Having many philosophers and learned people, "wisdom" was suggested to be the key to the ultimate meaning of life. But through this, many types of wisdom came out. One is Socratic wisdom, which is something that seeks, and looks for what life is worth living. Another is Hindu wisdom, which suggests casting out desires. There is also a wisdom that is of a deep type of knowledge that could explain reasons and causes of things. there is also the wisdom from the profound understanding of human life. Another is from sensitivity for humanity. There would also be wisdom as a broad view of things. Also, the matter of decision-making, guided by good judgment, is a kind of wisdom. Others also would consider spirituality as wisdom, since one may know a certain religious truth and live in terms of it. There is also wisdom that everyone likes the most, which knows how to be happy. Such wisdom was presented by two philosophers: Buddha and Epictetus, though they are quite different in their means. Wisdom also can be achieved in terms of living to what is really important. Also, it can be attained in terms of living in tune with a greater reality found in nature. There are so many kinds of wisdom, and so many thoughts about it, but what would be the most valuable among these?

There are certainly many factors influencing our views in terms of the value of wisdom. It may be through our knowledge, or by our experiences that we tend to say that this wisdom is crucial. It can also be because of our problems that we would like to have a little more freedom from, that we suggest the other kind of wisdom. Rarely, we try to point out that a certain kind of wisdom is more valuable because we however might have a little understanding of what true meaning of life would be.

My inclination would go for two types of wisdom: Socratic, and the wisdom as the sense of the overall goal of human life. My preferences to these two were somehow influenced by my experiences. For the Socratic wisdom, I found similarities from my character to that of what the great philosopher has been doing. The difference is, I think but not act. I seek for explanations, and I seek for my life. I also seek for what is good for the world, as I, at the same time, seek for what is good for me. Having learned about the other kind of wisdom, which is the sense of overall goal of human life, I realized that I need not push myself to act because my nature is doing it. I observed my life and how it goes, and somehow, it gave many suggestions to what my destiny should be. My inquisition though only through my thoughts, led me to having an "examined life," and I am happy for that. I don't have to waste my life because somehow, I found meaning to it. There is a little vague, but a very important goal that I should reach, and this made my life so important to me. Having realized my own goal, it led me to understanding that others may also have their ultimate goals, which in turn, would also make their life very much important.

The Socratic wisdom taught me something about humility. Pretending to know what I really do not know, gives a lot of trouble, and eventually, a great humiliation. Wanting to be always right would not do me any good, much more to those who believed what I might say and do. They might be given false hopes and false ideas that would also create foolish people of themselves. Humility would also mean knowing my own limitations in life. I am not all-knowing, and I am not perfect. Upon knowing this, I realize my importance.

I also view life as a kind of game that everyone must enjoy. It has a "goal" that we try to reach, and while doing so, we have a lot of fun while gaining a lot of knowledge. It is unavoidable to have "fouls" in our life but it is necessary for the game.

Combining these two types of wisdom, I believe that other types would follow. Knowing my importance to others would also mean knowing their importance to me, and this gives me sensitivity to human life. Knowing that my own life is important would give me happiness. Understanding life would direct me to understanding all other things, and eventually drive me to having good judgment. Trying to reach for the overall goal and looking at life as a kind of game, I will know of greater realities, and would live in tune with it. "Let it be", let the realities of life come to me. Understanding these things make me realize that our own existence is not enough to explain our evolution of life, rather, I would come to think that there is a Supreme Being that created all these. Man's abilities would not be sufficient enough to create a very great generation, and only what is believed to be supernatural can. All that there is, I finally found in the types of wisdom that I have been craving for.

Did a cleaning in my room and found this literary work of Pablo Neruda. We tackled this in our Literature 1 during college. Here are the lines:

Tonight I Can Write...

Tonight I can write
the saddest lines.
Write for example, "The night is shattered
and the blue stars shiver in the distance."

The night wind revolves in the
